Ben Frost / Australia www.benfrostisdead.com I related “Gold” to the yellow bricks of the “yellow brick road” in The Wizard of Oz. In the story, the characters of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow follow this magical road on a journey to find the Wizard, in search of the individual things that are missing from their lives. It is a story of fulfilment, dreams and hope for the future — in which the “yellow brick road” is the means of attaining these dreams. To me, the way in which Asia exports its goods is a metaphor for its journey to find its place on the world stage. It’s almost as if the contents of every box of merchandise that is being sent out of Asia holds in some way the collective hopes and dreams to participate and collaborate with the west — a journey, if you will, along their own ‘yellow brick road’. . |
