While You Were Sleeping – Rise of the Night is a series of nocturnal landscape photographs made in Singapore by night, often in areas with little or no ambient light, deliberately doing so to avoid the bright lights city image that many are familiar with when Singapore is mentioned. It is showing a side of Singapore few Singaporeans notice and even fewer appreciate. It is this perceived ordinary normalcy that I want to put emphasis on and formally frame it within an image such that it arrests one's attention. I want to show how this is Singapore too – albeit a side that seldom rises up to anyone's notice.
