In line with Tiger Beer's aim to showcase emerging Asian artists, selected AKAs will headline Tiger Translate events and engage in a creative exchange with other like-minded artists. This offers them an opportunity to converse, explore ideas and collaborate with established international artists who are passionate about Asia, and to showcase their work to the art and design communities in pioneering cities across three continents as part of the Tiger Translate 2007 global tour in New York, Berlin and Beijing.

The much-anticipated Tiger Translate Berlin event came hot on the heels of the New York showcase held on 31st March. Held over two days as part of DESIGNMAI 2007, the annual international design festival, Tiger Translate offered a unique showcase of the most progressive and cutting edge artists in Asia.

Tiger AKAs who were present to headline the event were Chinese animator/illustrator Ann Xiao and Thai designer/illustrator Boonchai Boonoppornkul. They were joined by five German counterparts; graffiti artist Stefan Marx, mix-media artists Patrick Farzar and Jan Rikus Hillman, street art performer Nomad and artist/graphic designer Luke Bennett.

To compliment the artworks on display, guests at the event were also treated to the beats of DJ Akiyuki (Sonar Collective / Jazzanova), DJ Wang (Environ Records), DJ Canisius (Yellow Lounge) and DJ Cle`.

The more creative guests got the opportunity to practise their artistic skills and create their own Tiger Translate t-shirt. The customization area offered a wide range of stencils, paints and fabrics, allowing guests to take home their own hand-made t-shirt.

Two collaborations centering around the customization of sofas took place as part of Tiger Translate Berlin. Nomad’s urban art paint-strokes on the sofa blended perfectly with Boonchai’s stylized Thai fonts. Ann and Patrick displayed their passion for illustration by customizing their sofa with a series of coloured tigers, hand drawn in their own unique styles.
